SELF-EXPRESSION & SUCCESS
Our greatest joy -- and our greatest challenge -- comes from expression of who we really are and the essence of what we have to give.
Without that self-expression as a guiding principle in our lives, we will be only pale shadows of the individuals we are meant to be and we can only know a fraction of the joy and true success that is ours to claim.
"We have an opportunity to live in joy. Do not postpone happiness until the debts are settled and relationships rearranged. Joy doesn't exist out in the world somewhere; we find it inside."
-- Rev. Mary Manin Morrissey
"I don't care what you do for a living. If you love it, you are a success."
-- George Burns
"The vast majority of people have the deeply entrenched conviction that 'success' promotes happiness. But it is not success that promotes happiness. When you genuinely enjoy your life, you are successful in the only real meaning of the term!
-- Tom Russell
"What's money? A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do."
-- Bob Dylan
"There is only one success -- to be able to spend your life in your own way."
-- Christopher Morley
"One should guard against preaching to young people success in the customary form as the main aim in life. The most important motive for work in school and in life is pleasure in work, pleasure in its result, and the knowledge of the value of the result to the community."
-- Albert Einstein
"Success is peace of mind, a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming, and not just in a physical way: seek ye first the kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be yours as well."
-- John Wooden
"Your chances of success are directly proportional to the degree of pleasure you desire from what you do. If you are in a job you hate, face the fact squarely and get out."
-- Michael Korda
"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."
-- Albert Schweitzer
"Success is important only to the extent that it puts one in a position to do more things one likes to do."
-- Sarah Caldwell
"Real success is finding you lifework in the work that you love."
-- David McCullough
"The ultimate of being successful is the luxury of giving yourself the time to do what you want to do."
-- Leontyne Price
"The most effective strategy for successful living is really no strategy at all. It is, rather, to be real, to be honest, to be authentic, to be you."
-- Ralph Marston
"Whatever you are from nature, keep to it; never desert your own line of talent. Be what nature intended you for, and you will succeed; be anything else, and you will be ten thousands times worse than nothing."
-- Sydney Smith
"I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody."
-- Bill Cosby
"The first secret of success? Self trust."
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson
"When I dare to be powerful... to use my strength in the service of my Vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid."
-- Andre Lorde
"If we all did the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves."
-- Thomas Alva Edison
"The common idea that success spoils people by making them vain, egotistic, and self-complacent is erroneous; on the contrary it makes them, for the most part, humble, tolerant, and kind. Failure makes people bitter and cruel."
-- W. Somerset Maugham
